Map Analysis

 

  • Business Directory of Moderate Size located in bottom left corner
  • Moderate number of businesses in comparison to other Philadelphia neighborhoods
  • No major roadway along the east side of the river
  • Some street names have changed
  • Much smaller area than what is considered East Falls today
  • Good amount of Industry and manufacturing
  • Many practical services are close by
  • Buildings are much more dispersed than what they are today
  • Stores on other side of Ridge Ave., more space on river without Kelly Drive
  • Very much a seperate entity and town
  • Much more business oriented than East Falls today (James Street center of business)
  • Lots of Transportation including Philadelphia and Norristown Railroad station, River with steamboat landing, and Ridge Ave. roadway
  • Transportation connect East Falls strongly with Center City Philadelphia
  • Residents most likely worked in factories near which they lived
